Complimentary Workshop on New RCM Piano Series!

New RCM Piano SeriesThe Leading Note will be hosting an informative, complimentary workshop on the morning of Friday, May 8, 2015.  The workshop will cover all of the aspects of the brand new RCM Celebration Series® for Piano and will be led by Dr. Kent McWilliams, a senior member of the Royal Conservatory’s College of Examiners. This will be a not-to-be-missed workshop for all piano teachers and advanced students!

  • Time: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (refreshments will be served)
  • Location: First Unitarian Congregation (30 Cleary Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario, just off Richmond Road)
  • Transportation: Ample free parking – also served by buses 2 and 87 (stop at Cleary Avenue and Richmond Road) – accessible by bicycle from the Ottawa River Pathway

The workshop will help you to:

  • explore the exciting and innovative new edition of the Celebration Series® and Piano Syllabus, 2015 Edition,
  • discover meaningful approaches for successfully integrating the requirements in the new Syllabus into your teaching,
  • learn how the revised RCM piano curriculum reflects current pedagogical trends and addresses the needs of today’s students,
  • be inspired by a wealth of diverse repertoire and etudes from all style periods,
  • learn about the updated Technical Requirements for Piano, and
  • explore the updated Four Star® Sight Reading and Ear Tests, which includes online ear tests for outstanding aural skills development.

Clinician: Dr. Kent McWilliams

Dr. Kent McWilliamsDr. Kent McWilliams, a piano professor at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, has enjoyed a successful performing career since his debut in Rachmaninov’s Third Concerto with the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He has been an award winner at competitions of Porto (Portugal), the Regina Symphony and the Canadian National Competitive Festival of Music. Kent has also performed live recitals and concertos on the CBC in Canada and the ABC in Australia. Together with clarinetist Jun Qian, he recently released a CD for Albany Records titled, “East Meets West: Music for Clarinet and Piano by Chinese Composers”. Dr. McWilliams is a senior member of The Royal Conservatory’s College of Examiners.
